How to Organise the Weekly Menu

The thing that killed my healthy eating for years wasn’t willpower. It was standing in front of the fridge at 7pm with no plan, tired, and ordering in.

The system

I plan five dinners, not seven. Two nights stay open for leftovers or takeout, no guilt. Five is enough structure without turning the week into a chore.

The shape of the week

  • Two meals repeat from the week before, so shopping is half-automatic
  • One meal is genuinely new, so I don’t get bored
  • Protein and vegetables get picked first, everything else builds around them
  • I write the list from the plan, not the other way around

Why it works

Deciding once, on a Sunday with a coffee, is a completely different mental task than deciding every night while hungry. Same food, same effort overall, just moved to a moment when I actually have the bandwidth for it.
