Numbers Aren't Everything, But They Can Help
I go back and forth on numbers. Track too closely and they start making decisions for me. Ignore them completely and I lose a useful signal.
Where I’ve landed: numbers are a starting point, not a verdict. A BMI, a calorie estimate, a protein target, none of these know your life, your history, or what a good day looks like for you. They’re just a rough map. Worth glancing at, not worth obeying.
So here are three quick ones I actually use. Type in your numbers, see where you land, and take what’s useful.
Quick Calculators
BMI
Body mass index from height and weight.
Daily Calories (TDEE)
Estimated calories to maintain your current weight.
Protein Target
Rough daily protein target based on weight and goal.
A few honest notes on all three: they’re estimates built on population averages, not you specifically. Your actual numbers will drift from them, and that’s normal, not a failure. Use them to get oriented, then let how you actually feel be the tiebreaker.
