Maintenance vs. Deficit: Latte vs. Americano
Two coffees a day, every day, for a year. That’s the example that finally made calorie math click for me. A latte and an americano look like the same five minutes of your morning. They are not the same number.
The gap
A whole milk latte runs somewhere around 150-200 calories. An americano is close to zero. Multiply that gap by two coffees a day, 365 days a year, and it’s the rough equivalent of several pounds of body fat, with nothing else in your day changing at all.
Why this matters more than another diet plan
Nobody sustains a dramatic overhaul for a year. Small, boring, repeatable swaps do get sustained, precisely because they don’t feel like a diet. That’s the actual lever.
Where I landed
I didn’t quit lattes. I just stopped pretending they were free. Knowing the number lets me choose it on purpose instead of by accident, which is really the whole game.
