How to Gain Your Body's Trust Again

Years of restriction teach your body one lesson: food might not show up, so hold on to everything it can. That’s not a willpower problem. It’s a trust problem, and it doesn’t get fixed by another round of restriction.

What broke

Chronic dieting messes with hunger signals, metabolic rate, sleep, and mood, in ways that show up long after the diet ends. The body isn’t being dramatic. It’s responding rationally to a pattern of scarcity.

What actually rebuilds it

  • Eating enough, consistently, not just on “good” days
  • Strength training, which gives the body a reason to keep the muscle it has
  • Sleep, which regulates the hunger hormones dieting disrupts
  • Time. Trust rebuilds slower than it breaks, and there’s no shortcut for that

Where I’m at

Still a work in progress. But eating consistently for months did more for how I feel around food than any restriction ever did, and that alone was worth relearning.
